Financial Aid Information for Domestic Non-California Residents

If you’re a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen from outside California, you still have options to help pay for your education at UC Santa Cruz. While state and UC need-based aid isn’t available to nonresidents, you can apply for federal aid, be considered for UC scholarships, and explore other resources to help cover costs.

What to do:

• Understand residency rules — California residency for tuition purposes is determined by the Office of the Registrar, and establishing residency can be difficult for nonresidents. Visit the Registrar’s website for details.
• Submit the FAFSA by the priority deadline to be considered for federal financial aid.
• Check your UC scholarship eligibility — all applicants are automatically considered for awards like the Dean’s Award and Regents Scholarship.
• Explore private scholarships using the extended list provided by the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.
• Review loan options — our office provides information on both federal and private loans.
